  1. A triangle has a base of 12 cm and a height of 7 cm. What is its area?

    Answer: 42 cm²

    Area = base × height ÷ 2 = 12 × 7 ÷ 2 = 42 cm².

  2. A triangle has an area of 54 cm² and a base of 12 cm. What is its height?

    Answer: 9 cm

    Height = area × 2 ÷ base = 54 × 2 ÷ 12 = 9 cm.

  3. A rectangle 15 cm by 10 cm has a rectangular hole 6 cm by 4 cm cut out of it. What is the area of the remaining shape?

    Answer: 126 cm²

    15 × 10 = 150 cm², 6 × 4 = 24 cm², and 150 − 24 = 126 cm².

  4. A square has a perimeter of 56 cm. What is its area?

    Answer: 196 cm²

    Each side is 56 ÷ 4 = 14 cm, so the area is 14 × 14 = 196 cm².

  5. A rectangular field measures 18 m by 11 m. What is its perimeter?

    Answer: 58 m

    2 × (18 + 11) = 58 m.

  6. A shape is made of a rectangle 20 cm by 8 cm with a triangle of base 20 cm and height 6 cm sitting on top of it. What is the total area?

    Answer: 220 cm²

    Rectangle: 20 × 8 = 160 cm². Triangle: 20 × 6 ÷ 2 = 60 cm². Total 220 cm².

  7. A rectangle has an area of 96 cm² and a width of 8 cm. What is its perimeter?

    Answer: 40 cm

    Length = 96 ÷ 8 = 12 cm, so the perimeter is 2 × (12 + 8) = 40 cm.

  8. What is the area of a triangle with a base of 9 cm and a height of 16 cm?

    Answer: 72 cm²

    9 × 16 ÷ 2 = 72 cm².

  9. A square garden of side 12 m has a path 2 m wide running all the way round the inside edge. What is the area of the grass left in the middle?

    Answer: 64 m²

    The path takes 2 m from each side, so the grass is 8 m by 8 m = 64 m².

  10. A wall measures 25 m by 17 m. Paint covers 20 m² per tin. How many full tins are needed to cover the wall?

    Answer: 22

    The wall is 25 × 17 = 425 m². 425 ÷ 20 = 21 with 5 m² left over, so 22 tins are needed.
