  1. A table shows tickets sold: Monday 85, Tuesday 112, Wednesday 96, Thursday 127. How many tickets were sold in the four days?

    Answer: 420

    85 + 112 + 96 + 127 = 420 tickets.

  2. A table shows tickets sold: Monday 85, Tuesday 112, Wednesday 96, Thursday 127. What was the average number sold per day?

    Answer: 105

    420 ÷ 4 = 105 tickets a day.

  3. A survey of 60 pupils shows: football 24, swimming 18, cycling 12, running 6. What fraction chose cycling?

    Answer: 1/5

12 out of 60 is 12/60, which simplifies to 1/5.

  4. A survey of 60 pupils shows: football 24, swimming 18, cycling 12, running 6. What percentage chose football?

    Answer: 40%

    24 out of 60 is 24/60 = 2/5 = 40%.

  5. A price table shows: adult ticket $12, child ticket $7, senior ticket $9. What does a family of 2 adults and 3 children pay?

    Answer: $45

    2 × $12 = $24 and 3 × $7 = $21, so the family pays $45.

  6. A table shows rainfall in mm: Jan 220, Feb 165, Mar 310, Apr 195. How much more rain fell in March than in February?

    Answer: 145 mm

    310 − 165 = 145 mm more.

  7. A table shows rainfall in mm: Jan 220, Feb 165, Mar 310, Apr 195. What was the average monthly rainfall?

    Answer: 222.5 mm

    220 + 165 + 310 + 195 = 890, and 890 ÷ 4 = 222.5 mm.

  8. A train timetable shows departures at 07 40, 08 10, 08 40 and 09 10. A passenger reaches the station at 08 15. How long must she wait?

    Answer: 25 min

    The next train is at 08 40, and from 08 15 to 08 40 is 25 minutes.

  9. A table shows pupils in four classes: 5A 40, 5B 38, 5C ?, 5D 41. There are 158 pupils altogether. How many are in 5C?

    Answer: 39

    40 + 38 + 41 = 119, and 158 − 119 = 39 pupils in 5C.

  10. A table shows books borrowed: fiction 45, non-fiction 30. What is the ratio of fiction to non-fiction in its simplest form?

    Answer: 3 : 2

    Both 45 and 30 divide by 15, giving 3 : 2.
