A cuboid measures 8 cm by 5 cm by 3 cm. What is its volume?
Answer: 120 cm³
Volume = 8 × 5 × 3 = 120 cm³.
What is the volume of a cube with edges of 5 cm?
Answer: 125 cm³
5 × 5 × 5 = 125 cm³.
A cuboid has a volume of 240 cm³. Its base measures 8 cm by 6 cm. What is its height?
Answer: 5 cm
The base area is 8 × 6 = 48 cm², and 240 ÷ 48 = 5 cm.
How many millilitres of water fill a container of volume 1 litre?
Answer: 1000
1 ℓ = 1000 ml, and 1 ml fills 1 cm³.
A tank measures 20 cm by 15 cm by 10 cm. How many litres of water does it hold when full?
Answer: 3 ℓ
20 × 15 × 10 = 3000 cm³, and 1000 cm³ = 1 ℓ, so the tank holds 3 ℓ.
A solid is built from 1 cm cubes, stacked 4 along, 3 across and 2 high. How many cubes are used?
Answer: 24
4 × 3 × 2 = 24 cubes.
A tank 30 cm by 20 cm by 25 cm is filled with 9 litres of water. How much more water is needed to fill it completely?
Answer: 6 ℓ
The tank holds 30 × 20 × 25 = 15000 cm³ = 15 ℓ, and 15 − 9 = 6 ℓ more is needed.
How many cubes of edge 2 cm fit inside a cuboid measuring 8 cm by 4 cm by 2 cm?
Answer: 8
The cuboid is 64 cm³ and each cube is 2 × 2 × 2 = 8 cm³, so 64 ÷ 8 = 8 cubes.
A jug holds 2500 cm³ of juice. How many litres is that?
Answer: 2.5 ℓ
1000 cm³ = 1 ℓ, so 2500 cm³ = 2.5 ℓ.
The base of a box has an area of 108 cm² and the box is 5 cm tall. What is its volume?
Answer: 540 cm³
Volume = base area × height = 108 × 5 = 540 cm³.
